Women's Health Q & A
What is women’s health?
Women’s health is an area of medicine focused on the very specialized health needs of women. Women have unique health needs because of their reproductive organs. In addition to pregnancy and menopause, your reproductive organs also increase your risk of health issues and diseases such as breast cancer, osteoporosis, and cervical cancer.
The team at Family Care & Wellness specializes in women’s health and provides comprehensive exams focused on prevention and health promotion. The team can also diagnose and treat any health condition.
What can I expect during my annual women’s health exam?
At Family Care & Wellness, you can expect a comprehensive evaluation during your annual women’s health exam.
During your exam, the team asks detailed questions about your current health and concerns, medical history, family history, medication and supplement use, diet and exercise, daily stresses, and lifestyle habits.
After your interview, the team conducts a physical exam, which may include:
- Measurement of heart rate and blood pressure
- Evaluation of your ears, nose, and throat
- Check of your respiration and lungs
- Examination of your skin and general appearance
- Palpation of your internal organs
- Breast exam
The team may also request diagnostic tests to screen for diseases and assess the function and health of your organ systems, such as a blood glucose test, lipid profile, complete blood count, metabolic panel, and/or urinalysis.
Based on your age and health history, the team may also recommend various health screenings such as a Pap smear, mammogram, colon cancer screening, or bone density test.
After completing your exam, the team offers recommendations to improve your health, such as updating your vaccinations.
Family Care & Wellness also provides a comprehensive wellness program that includes services such as weight loss, smoking cessation, and stress management. The team may suggest specific wellness services to optimize your health and well-being.
